The National Audit Office published a report on local support for people with a learning disability on March 3rd 2017. This includes an update on progress in the Transforming Care programme and on the numbers of people with learning disabilities in employment and settled accommodation.
The summary of the report includes some key recommendations for Transforming Care programme partners including:
• The refreshed policy on care and treatment reviews should require that reviews happen at the right time and involve the right people
• Mechanisms need to ensure that money follows the patient to where it is most needed, and can be moved quickly to pay for community support
• TCPs should bring forward timetables to develop plans to enable the workforce to be recruited and trained and ready to provide community support.
