Carers Festival - What Do You See?

Is the story of how Marshall Joan’s Care Home is transformed from a failing, unhappy, stress-filled environment to one of success with a culture that cares. Acting as a companion piece to “Grandma Remember Me?” “ What do you see?” follows the later stages of dementia. It looks at the importance of life histories within person centred care, challenges taboos around death and shows the possibility of choice and the empowerment advance care planning brings.

It takes good leadership to impact change and as important as it is to create a positive environment and culture of care for residents, it is equally important to create a work environment that staff want to work in. A “theatrical feast” which aims to impact positive change.  Described as “powerful” “realistic” and “incredibly funny.”

Carers Festival - Grandma Remember Me

Grandma Remember Me is written from the perspective of a young child, Lilly, whose grandma develops Alzheimer’s. It explores their changing relationship from Lilly’s initial recognition that there is something wrong with her grandma, through the unfolding challenges and final acceptance and understanding of the disease. It explores the wider impact on family, the need for support and understanding within our communities and the importance of memories and relationships within our lives and how to keep and treasure them. “It is a piece of high quality theatre, very powerful, realistic and deeply moving.

Carers Pathway Forum - Islington Carers Hub

The Pathway Forum is a forum for people to discuss general issues affecting their caring role such as finances, changes to services or housing, for example. The forum is also a way for the Council to consult with carers with the aim of improving carer involvement in service planning and evaluation of services.

The meetings will sometimes have a guest speaker talking about a current topic of interest – suggestions for topics from carers are encouraged.

Membership is open to anyone in Islington age 18 or over who is providing unpaid care to another adult. Please note that we cannot provide individual casework at the meetings – but we can at our Advice Sessions! You may also find one of our Support Groups helpful.

Because of the Covid-19 Crisis we have temporarily moved the Carers Pathway Forum online via Zoom. Contact us via 020 7281 3319 or info@islingtoncarershub.org to register and receive the Zoom link.

Mental Health Carers Support Group - Islington Carers Hub

In this session we’ll cover PERSONALITY DISORDERS
Presented by  Dr Dimitrios Chartonas, Consultant Psychiatrist
Session Chair: Dr Philippa Greenfield (Consultant Psychiatrist)

Personality Disorder is often poorly understood and as a result can be associated with significant stigma. In the session, we will cover: what we mean by the term personality disorder, with a focus on emotionally unstable (borderline) personality disorder; why someone might receive this diagnosis and consider why a diagnosis may or may not feel helpful. We will address some key issues for carers of supporting someone who receives this diagnosis and where you can get more support for both the person you care for and yourself.

Because of Covid the mental health carers support group will take place online via Zoom. Contact us via 020 7281 3319 or info@islingtoncarershub.org to register and receive the Zoom link.
