Seeking expressions of interest to join pool of London SAR Champions

The London Safeguarding Adults Board is seeking experienced and energetic colleagues to join our new regional pool of SAR Champions. This request follows the decision by the LGA Care and Health Improvement Programme (CHIP) to commission RiPfA in partnership with SCIE to develop a regional SAR Champion network. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the work of the London Safeguarding Adults Board work programme.

The role of SAR Champions

We are looking to appoint ten SAR Champions in London. Each SAR Champion will be trained and supported by RiPfA and SCIE to act as a resource to the SABs and reviewers within a particular regional or sub-regional network. They will be expected to support the work programme of the London Safeguarding Adults Board in three key areas:

  1. To use the SAR Quality Markers
  2. To produce learning in SARs that fits with the SAR Library coding scheme for learning
  3. To use the SAR library cover sheet

SAR Champions will be expected to provide this support by:

  • Sharing their own learning about the SAR library resources through the relevant networks
  • Acting as a point of contact for local SAB Chairs, business managers, commissioners and reviewers in their region

Who should apply?

SAR Champions would ideally be individuals whose current roles or activities:

  • Involve commissioning and/or undertaking SARs
  • Integrate them within SAR regional infrastructure
  • Allow the champion functions to be complementary to ‘the day job’, with their substantive employer supporting any SAR champion to do so
  • Do not require them to be paid for fulfilling the championing duties

It would best suit people who are:

  • Passionate about learning and improvements in safeguarding
  • Able to articulate complex issues in a simple and accessible manner
  • Interested in the nuts and bolts of methods and standards
  • Keen to share experiences and contribute to a community of practice

Support provided

SAR Champions will be provided with the following:

  • One-day training event at an event on 8th October 2018 (NB it is a requirement to attend this)
  • Ongoing support in the role by RiPfA and/or SCIE
  • One-day event in March 2019 for Champions to share experiences and learning

Expectation

  • SAR Champions will be expected to work closely with London safeguarding networks and regularly attend the London Safeguarding Professionals Steering Group
  • SAR Champions will be expected to respond to a number of small requests over the course of a week e.g. responding to requests, supporting local areas to complete a SAR front-sheet etc.
  • All applications must be accompanied with a supporting statement from the candidate’s line manager agreeing to them undertaking the role
