Under the Children and Families Act a young person can decide to stay with Children Services until the 25th birthday. Does this equally apply to any service commissioned by the council e.g. say a service commissioned to support young carers . Can a young carer decide to stay with the service until 25 instead of moving on to the Adult Carers support service.
The answer is No it only relates to young people with Special needs. I got the answer from colleagues in Children Service and as a school govenor from Legal team that came to give govenors a brief on meeting their duties under the Act. If anyone got a different legal view please let me know.
