The Role of this Network
The Care Act 2014 Lawyers Group is a time focussed group established to consider the legal implications and implementation of the Care Act 2014, the care and support regulations and the statutory guidance.
The group consists of mainly London local authority lawyers, although lawyers from outside of London are welcome to join. The group is hosted by the London Borough of Islington.
Key Aims for 2015/16
The activities of the group include the following:
- To discuss interpretation and implementation of the legislation and guidance;
- To identify areas in the legislation and guidance that are of specific concern and suggest possible solutions so that appropriate feedback can be given in response to the consultation on the draft regulations and guidance in respect of both implementation phases in 2015 and 2016;
- To identify issues that could be problematic to report back to members’ respective authorities for feedback to the relevant Care Act regional groups, ADASS and LGA;
- Where agreed by members of the group, to share with colleagues draft documents and examples of best practice with a view to achieving where possible, consistency and co-operation between authorities.
- The group serves as a forum where regional issues can be flagged and passed on to the Care Act regional leads as well as individual local authorities.
- The group has established a training sub-group to work with ADASS/LGA, LondonADASS and the DoH to develop legal literacy training on the Care Act 2014 for local authority adult social care lawyers and senior managers.
